Dental Implants

Implant Dentistry Services at Luzana M Brignon DDS in San Jose, CA

If you want to replace your partial or dentures with a more secure and comfortable version utilizing implants, or you are missing one or more teeth, you will likely want to discuss with Dr. Brignon the options to provide this option which is the closest thing to new natural teeth.  Wheras dentures and/or partials can be removed, dental implants are anchored permanently into the actual jaw itself.

As long as you have healthy oral tissue and gums and suitable jawbone ridges, then you are a prime candidate for dental implants.  Once the implant is inserted into the jaw, a mechanical and chemical bond is formed, and the jawbone actually grows into implant.

With dental implants at Luzana Brignon DDS in San Jose, the dentist utilizes the finest materials and lab specialists along with Dr. Brignon's high standards to provide the most satisfactory fitting, and they will feel as wonderfull and look as natural as your original teeth ( in some cases, better!).

To find out more specifically how implant dentistry can be the best option for you, contact our office for a free implant consultation with Dr. Brignon at 408-251-0610.

Some of the most common questions people have about implants and the options available to them are addressed below.

♦   What exactly is a dental implant that I have been hearing so much about?

A dental implant is basically a titanium metal replacement for the actual root of the tooth itself, and it is anchored
via being surgically implanted into the patients jawbone.

Approximately two to six months is usually allowed for the body and placement into the jawbone to heal properly, while the bone around the implant is allwoed to fuse to the actual implant through the process known as osseointegration.  Once the healing is determined to be completed adequately , the implants are then use to anchor the single or multiple crowns, bridges, or dentures.

In essence, dental implants are the best and most natural replacement for a missing tooth or teeth.

♦    Other common question about dental implants we can answer for you .

Are you an implant candidate?

Advantages of Implants over a Denture or a Bridge:

What are situations where implants are appropriate or an option:

What is treatment like, and any after treatment?

Implants as a treatment for Periodontal disease:

♦    Explain the process entailed in getting dental implants.

The process with Luzana Brignon DDS starts with a complete evaluation of the patients dental and medical history, followed by appropriate x-rays as well as an extensive clinical examination of the patients entire mouth, and more specifically with the missing tooth or teeth area.   After the intial assessment is is analyzed, an encompassing treatment plan can be formulated.  Implants are then surgically placed into the jawbone itself under local anesthesia.

The determination of the healing time necessary is based on the quantity and quality of bone available, and the individual patients recuperative healing properties, and the type of implant placed is also a contributing factor.  Following satisfactory healing, the implant can then be utilized to support the desired crown, bridge, or denture.

♦    What are the different types of dental implants?

Both the endosteal and the subperiosteal implants have been deemed to be acceptable to the paramaters required by the ADA ( American Dental Association )   The most important factor is the determination of whether your jawbone has the necessary bone density,  and the health of the adjacent gums also can be of importance.  The most prevalent types of impants placed are the endosteal root type, which is basically like a man-made tooth root.

♦    How do I go about starting the process to receive dental implants?

You should select a dentist or dentist team who have the experience and and accumulated knowledge regarding all the aspects related to the treatment.  Dr. Brignon and her associates have this knowledge.  The dental implant process is a two step process, consiting of the first phase (surgical) and the final step (restorative).  In most cases, a dental surgeon such as an oral surgeon or periodontist, conducts the surgical component.  There are many more cases, however, as implant dentistry has become more prevalent, where a dentist who specializes in restorative dentistry can peform both aspects of the two procedures.
